Former WWE star Andrew “Test” Martin arrested for DUI

By Jim Murphy April 8th, 2008

Dave Meltzer @ The Wrestling Observer was all over this earlier–most likely before the field sobriety test was even completed as is his usual form–but former WWE and TNA pro wrestler Andrew “Test” Martin was pinched on a DUI rap yesterday in Tampa. “Test” was a pretty high profile star in the WWE for awhile but was eventually released. He wrestled in TNA for awhile and he may or may not have retired from the sport. He was vague about that when asked by the Tampa fishwrap:

Former World Wrestling Entertainment star Andrew “Test” Martin was arrested Sunday morning in Pasco County, accused of driving under the influence.

Martin, 33, was stopped on State Road 54 near Gateway Boulevard by an off-duty police officer after she spotted a “reckless vehicle” driving north on Interstate 275, a highway patrol report states. Florida Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene near the Westbrook Estates subdivision just after 10:30 a.m. and noticed Martin’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot and his speech was slurred, according to the report.

He didn’t smell of alcohol, the trooper wrote in the report.

When Martin stepped out of the car, he was “unsteady and shaking” but agreed to do field-sobriety tests for the trooper and failed, the report states.

He was arrested on charges of DUI and driving while his license was suspended or revoked.

Martin was taken to the Land O’ Lakes Jail after refusing to submit to a urine test.

“The defendant was constantly falling asleep in my vehicle,” the trooper wrote.

Test maintains his innocence, claiming he doesn’t “drink or do drugs” despite failing the field sobriety test, falling asleep in the black and white, refusing the urine test and acting like a paranoid kook when interviewed by the reporter for this piece:

Martin, of 371 Channelside Walkway, No. 101, Tampa, was released from jail Sunday night after posting $500 bail.

“Considering I don’t drink alcohol or do drugs I don’t know how the DUI is going to stand,” Martin said reached by telephone Monday afternoon.

He said his attorney, whom he declined to name, would take care of it.

Martin has a long history of traffic violations, including speeding, seat-belt violations and reckless driving, according to his Florida driving record.

“Denial” appears to be more than just a river in Egypt–the “my attorney will make it go away” card is a close second in popularity among arrogant would be celebs to the “do you know who I am” card. And since there’s no doubt some no-lifer “Test groupies” still out there somewhere I’m sure he appreciates them printing his home address. Maybe they could have run the address on Google maps and included the directions to his crib while they were at it.

The best part is his cryptic response to the questions about his status as a pro wrestler:

Martin declined to comment on whether he’s still wrestling professionally.

“It’s not something I want to get into,” he said.

Hate to reopen those emotional forehead scars I guess….and that certainly doesn’t make him sound like, I don’t know, a paranoid drug user?

We’ll keep you posted….actually, we won’t. Not unless something funny and/or really strange comes of this:
