DREAM.2: Ronaldo Jacare vs. Ian Murphy

By Jim Murphy April 29th, 2008

Taking a commercial break during the video montage for this fight. We get to see what looks like a commercial for cellphones that come in every color under the rainbow. Then a commercial for a savings and loan and a completely inexplicable commercial that I have no idea what its for. Hyundai Capital PrimeLoan commercial, followed by a quick spot for Goodyear (who’s a sponsor of the event). This may set a low water mark for ring entrance music as Ian Murphy comes to the ring to Phil Collins “Susudio”. Murphy is a college wrestling badass out of Cal State Fullerton and was ranked #1 in the Pac 10 in 2006. This is, however, his MMA debut and he’s got a tough opponent against BJJ stud Jacare. This is a horrible matchup for an amateur wrestler since he wants to take it on the ground where it becomes a matter of the BJJ guy figuring out how to submit him. See Mir, Frank vs. Lesnar, Brock. Jacare comes out to some song I don’t know. It’s one of those Brazillian songs that start out kind of slow techno like and then go into a hip hop beat. Someone must record them specially for MMA entrances. Murphy looks to be in incredible physical shape, but Jacare has to be a decided favorite due to his experience and submission skills. Murphy looks younger than his 22 years, with a crew cut. They shake hands in the middle and then we’re ready to fight.

ROUND 1:

Fighters exchange some tentative punches before Murphy gets a nice takedown but now Jacare is saying “Welome to the Jungle”. He grabs his head and slams in some knees and now is working for a kimura though for now Murphy is keeping his arm bent. Don’t see how he can get out for long with the way Jacare has it locked in. Now Jacare takes Murphy’s back and starts punching him to the back of the head. Looks like Jacare is trying to set up a rear naked choke. Murphy covers up only to eat a frw more punches to the back of the head. Jacare looking for the rear naked choke has the legs cinched in but can’t get the arms in position so he’s just going to pound the poor SOB to the back of the head for awhile. This may be the most one sided MMA match I’ve ever seen as Murphy is just laying there taking a beating–he tries to get up and Jacare locks in the rear naked choke which brings the tapout. I know you’ve got to start somewhere but the DREAM middleweight GP probably isn’t a good place for your first MMA bout.

WINNER IS RONALDO JACARE BY SUBMISSION (REAR NAKED CHOKE)
