Affliction and HDNet on the outs?

By Jim Murphy May 4th, 2008

That’s what several MMA sites are reporting, based on the report that Affliction won’t be holding their debut show at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas after all. This is all based on a comment by Randy Couture on a MMA radio show that the event may end up at The Pond in Anaheim, CA.

This is a big problem with the online MMA media–its one thing to do analysis or even speculative analysis, another thing entirely to make a bunch of inductive leaps that simply aren’t borne out by facts and report it as “fact”. What’s probably going on here is simple negotiation, if that. There’s plenty of other possible reasons for the change in venue–again, if its really going to change. With all due respect to Randy Couture, unless he’s taken on the secondary role of building manager for a large sports arena I’m not sure that he’s privy to all of the back and forth.

The reality is that Affliction and HDNet Fights need each other. It’s way to early to report that everything has gone to hell in a handbasket between the two companies.
