Fox Sports posts outdated story on Diaz at DREAM

By Jim Murphy May 6th, 2008

Showing just how seriously the mainstream sports media takes MMA, Fox Sports just posted a feature story about Nick Diaz fighting at DREAM.3. That would be the very same Nick Diaz whom we reported would *not* be fighting at DREAM early this morning.

Nick Diaz will collide with former King of Pancrase Katsuya Inoue in a title elimination bout for the newly created Dream welterweight championship at Dream 3 on May 11 in Saitama, Japan.

The winner of the Diaz-Inoue bout will likely face Japanese superstar Hayato “Mach” Sakurai for the Dream welterweight championship in July or September.

Diaz (15-7), who had the MMA world buzzing a year ago after his submission victory over Pride lightweight champion Takanori Gomi, needs a strong performance. After a narrow split decision win over Hawaiian Mike Aina in September, Diaz was stopped on a cut in his bout with K.J. Noons for the EliteXC lightweight championship two months later.

The article is authored by Brian Knapp of The Fight Network, who definitely knows his stuff and no doubt is aware that Diaz is off of the DREAM card. What’s happened here is that FoxSports either reprinted the story from The Fight Network (with whom they have an affiliate relationship) without asking or else Knapp submitted the story before this morning when it was 100% accurate and Fox Sports didn’t post it until now. My guess is that they’ll be pulling it down at some point, so I took the liberty of preserving it for posterity:
