SENGOKU 2: Intermission

By Jim Murphy May 18th, 2008

I think we’re getting an intermission now–card is moving along at a pretty brisk pace, particularly compared with the seemingly endless DREAM events of late. Three fights remain–Ryo Kawamura vs. Kevin Randleman, Roger Gracie vs. Yuki Kondo and the main event with Josh Barnett taking on Jeff Monson. The Barnett/Monson matchup has the potential to be pretty good–as always, Monson gives up a lot of height but once the fight goes to the ground he’s a monster. Barnett is too, of course. This fight could have the two smartest guys in the sport facing off–Monson has a masters degree in psychology, is famous for his anarchist belief system and is basically one of the sharper fighters in MMA. Barnett might not have Monson’s formal academic credentials but he’s sharp as a tack himself, and one of the funnier guys in the sport. His MySpace blog is a ‘must read’ due to his frequent insights on training mixed in with hilarious commentary and recommendations of heavy metal bands.

I’m going to grab a drink and I’ll be back when the fights resume…
