WEC: Faber v. Pulver pregame
By Jim Murphy June 1st, 2008The show is about to begin and hopefully you had the opportunity to see the ‘Pulver v. Faber’ preview show that just ended. Incredible job that surprisingly blew away everything the UFC has done of late. That’s surprising, of course, since the WEC is owned by UFC parents Zuffa, LLC. What’s really amazing to me is a) why Urijah Faber isn’t the biggest star in MMA and b) why the UFC hasn’t worked something out to get him fighting on their shows. The guy just has it all–he’s a good looking dude, well spoken, intelligent and just a first rate fighter. Perhaps its a bias against the lower weight classes but Dana White *should* be a smart enough boxing guy to note that in recent years at least the action–and the money–has been at the mid to lower weights. Frank Mir is doing color commentary tonight–he’s excellent at this. Once you get over his dopey ‘I just rolled out of the nightclub wearing my black silk shirt’ facial expressions, he’s an exceptional commentator. Just a cut or two below Joe Rogan and since Rogan is arguably the best comentator in the game that’s a compliment. He’s a different commentator than Rogan, of course, but he does a great job.
Rob McCullough vs. Kenneth Alexander will start the show in just a couple of minutes.
