EliteXC: KJ Noons vs. Yves Edwards

By Jim Murphy June 14th, 2008

Noons is one of those guys in the sport that its hard not to like. Just a nice guy who dusted himself off and rebuilt his career after a loss to erratic slugger Charles ‘Crazy Horse’ Bennett. Yves Edwards is no joke, as he’s fought everywhere against everyone for a long, long time.

ROUND ONE:

Noons opens the fight with a big kick, Edwards responds with a punch. Nice jab by Noons. Noons looks to be the better technical boxer and just as I said that he tags Edwards with a straight right and hurts Edwards. Edwards staggers backwards and Noons is on top of him like a pitbull on a pork chop and KJ unleashes every punch and elbow strike in the books. Edwards is overwhelmed and Mario Yamasaki quickly stops the contest. VERY impressive performance by KJ Noons….

KJ NOONS WINS BY TKO

Mutual admiration society in the postfight interview with classy comments by both fighter. Noons gives Edwards massive props, and Edwards responds in kind.

Nick Diaz in the ring now and Noons asks the fans if he deserves a rematch. The fans boo mercilessly, Diaz and Noons exchange words and all hell breaks loose as Noons’ people scuffle with Diaz’s people. Bad Diaz appears and security ushers Nick and Nate Diaz out of the cage throwing what I assume are City Boxing gang signs along with the more traditional middle finger salute. Mauro Ranallo balefully suggests that this has no place in the sport, but its an unconvincing lament as they knew exactly what was going to happen when they brought Diaz in the cage for the postfight confrontation in the first place.
