Fickett now off Strikeforce card too…
By Jim Murphy June 27th, 2008MMA Junkie is reporting that Drew Fickett is also off the Strikeforce card due to a 45 day non-compete with another organization he’s scheduled to fight for:
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Just hours after Drew Fickett had agreed to fight Luke Stewart in place of Joe Riggs at tonight’s Strikeforce event, Fickett, too, has been forced to pull out of the event.
A source close to Fickett tells MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that officials from Maximum Fighting Championships, for whom Fickett was supposed to fight on July 25, have vetoed the Strikeforce bout since it falls within the 45-day non-compete period of their event.
This particular fight has had a run of bad luck–Luke Stewart was originally scheduled to face Shonie Carter, who was forced to withdraw due to a hand injury. That led to Riggs being tapped as a replacement, only to be refused licensing by the CSAC. Fickett stepped in on a days notice to take the fight, only to be forced out due to his contractual situation.
At this moment no word of a new opponent for Stewart. It’d be a shame if he didn’t get to fight after this series of events completely beyond his control.
