The Savage Science: We’re hot!

By Jim Murphy June 29th, 2008

Modestly precludes us from saying that figuratively–the staff here SAVAGE SCIENCE World Headquarters in beautiful Portland, Oregon is hot literally!

The record-shattering heat across the Northwest will continue today as the ridge holds strong across the region. This is forcing the extreme heat north and east and this heat will continue to advance over the next few days. Temperatures soared to 100 degrees in Portland, Ore., and 91 in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday, setting new record-high temperatures for the day in both locations. The heat will continue today with many places setting new record-high temperatures again. Some relief will be felt tomorrow west of the Cascades as the extreme heat presses eastward into the northern Rockies.

Making things even sweatier is the fact that this is 15-20 degrees hotter than average–in other words, most of the time Portland residents don’t need air conditioning so many residences and other buildings don’t have it. The SAVAGE SCIENCE office suite is on the top floor of a beautifully restored art deco building in downtown Portland, and usually its very comfortable without AC. Not this weekend! Fortunately, the only live MMA was Friday night and much of the staff was already out of town on assignment.

However much like the unofficial creed of the US Postal Service–which all of you know is derived from Herodotus’ Histories–our commitment to fight sport journalistic excellence will not waiver. We bring you the best in live MMA coverage, news and commentary no matter where in the world it takes place, what time of day it happens or, for that matter, how hot it is in our office suites:

“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”

We’re just glad that all of our local espresso bars and brewpubs have wi-fi and are properly air conditioned…
