Saturday, June 28th, 2008

The Illinois State boxing commission will assume responsibility for MMA regulation on 7/1. The move could quickly make the state, and particularly Chicago, a hotspot for the sport:
Illinois is ready to take its place in the mixed martial arts world.
And always known as a fighter’s town, Rockford is sure to be in the mix.
Beginning …

Strikeforce: Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Thomson’s nickname is ‘The Punk’ but he’s anything but, as he’s done some public service announcement work lately against the barbaric abuse of dogs in dogfighting. He, along with some of the other Strikeforce fighters including Cung Le, has also done some educational programs for ‘at-risk’ kids basically teaching them that real men don’t …

Strikeforce: Billy Evangelista vs. Nam Phan

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Evangelista comes to the ring to Rage Against the Machine, which has become something of a trend in the past few months. Jeff Monson at Sengoku3 against Josh Barnett, a fighter at the last DREAM show–can’t recall whom at the moment– and now Evangelista entering to RATM. Nam Phan is 25 and an up …

Strikeforce: Anthony Ruiz vs. Bobby Southworth

Friday, June 27th, 2008

This fight is for the Strikeforce light heavyweight title. Ruiz holds a win over champ Southworth, which is always a nice mental edge for a challenger. Apparently Ruiz won the first matchup on cuts which Southworth is using to suggest that the victory was insignificant. Southworth beat Vernon ‘Tiger’ White for the …

Strikeforce: Miesha Tate vs. Eleina Maxwell

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Miesha Tate’s got something of a hot Lita Ford rocker chick look going. She’s from Olympia, Washington–yet another MMA pro from the Pacific Northwest. She’s 1-1 in her pro career with the loss coming to tough Caitlin Young. Tate wrestled on the boys wrestling team in high school. Bas wonders if …

Strikeforce: Raymond Daniels vs. Jeremiah Metcalf

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Showing the promo video now and Metcalf could be a stunt double for Matt ‘The Law’ Lindland were it not for the two color hair. They leave Metcalf hanging on the ramp for a moment and he tries to do a little dance a la Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller. Stick to fighting, Jeremiah. …

Strikeforce: Chris Cariaso vs. Anthony Figueroa

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Figueroa knows how to get on the good side of the Savage Science staff, coming to the ring to a Bon Scott-era AC/DC classic, “TNT”. Bas Rutten seems likewise pleased with Figueroa’s choice of entrance music. These two are a couple of evenly matched 135 pound fighters and this should be an entertaining …

We’re ready to go with round by round from San Jose on tonight’s Strikeforce card….HD Net is finishing up Jose Palacios vs. Bobby Stack with Stack winning a unanimous decision. Now they’re interviewing Joe Riggs, who’s telling about his story of not getting cleared to fight. He’s actually got a legit gripe here–he …

Fighter to watch: Darren Uyenoyama

Friday, June 27th, 2008

THE SAVAGE SCIENCE is always happy to give props to up and coming fighters that might be somewhat below the radar–at least for now. Darren “BC” Uyenoyama’s fight with Hideo Tokoro at DREAM.4 was the fight of the night, and the first round is neck and neck with the 2nd round of the McCullough/Torres …

Bisping vs. Leben signed for October UK fight

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Michael Bisping will finally get a shot at Chris Leben, assuming that Leben doesn’t again run afoul of law enforcement authorities here in the Rose City:

Michael Bisping will get his fight with Chris Leben, it will happen in England, and it will be spectacular. That was the message of UK UFC president Marshall Zelaznik on …
