World Victory Road updates card for Sengoku 4 and 5
By Lyman Hoyt August 9th, 2008World Victory Road has added a match to the 8/24/08 Sengoku 4 card:
Valentijn Overeem vs. Kazuo Takahashi
Valentijn Overeem has been around forever and as his name suggests is the older brother of current DREAM competitor Alistair Overeem. His record is a less than stellar 25-22 but holds a couple of impressive wins over Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Randy Couture in the old RINGS promotion back in 2000. The problem is that he hasn’t had a quality win since.
Kazuo Takahashi has been a fixture in a number of Japanese shoot wrestling promotions and has fought a who’s who of the sport in compiling a 28-22-1 mark. His most impressive win was likely a victory over Minoru Suzuki on a 1998 PANCRASE event.
Hard to say how this match will turn out; best case scenario it could be a surprisingly entertaining matchup between a couple of evenly matched veterans.
Also, WVR has attached a few names to the Sengoku 5 card to be held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo on September 28th. No opponents have been named for the following fighters:
Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos
Kazuhiro Nakamura
Jorge Santiago
Siyar Bahadurzada
