ShoXC: Po’ai Suganuma vs. Jared Hamman
By Jim Murphy August 15th, 2008Mauro Ranallo in rare form tonight–reviewing the controversial 15 second stoppage in the first meeting between these fighters he suggested that the first fight “lasted as long as my career highlights package”. He then unleashes a “Hawaiian Punch” blast before showing Suganuma’s video preview.
ROUND ONE:
Suganuma lands an overhand right from the bell that sends Hamman to the ground. Suganuma moves into side control and scrambles to his feet. Suganuma grabs a bodylock and looks for a takedown but gets reversed. Sugauma extricates himself and catches Hamman with another haymaker. Hamman pulls guard and he’s safe for the time being. Another big right by Suga partially connects and Hamman counters with a punch that rocks the Hawaiian. Suganuma sinks to the ground and Hamman follows up with the ground and pound, punching a mudhole into the Hawaiian until the ref jumps in to stop the contest. Wow. Short action packed fight with Hamman winning the rematch in what should become a trilogy.
JARED HAMMAN WINS BY TKO
Credit to both fighters for showing the class that “Nature Boy” KJ Noons so desperately lacks. Noons won a controversial TKO victory over tough Nick Diaz due to a cut that the Stockton, CA badass wanted to fight through. Noons has since run around acting like he’s Fedor Emelianenko and Diaz was Tim Sylvia.
In this case, Suganuma gave his opponent a rematch for a questionable stoppage and Hamman took advantage of it. Hamman didn’t hesitate when asked if he’d rematch Suganuma saying “sure, he gave me a rematch”.
