Kimbo will hopefully have the same ref that ref’d the James Thompson fight!! That idiot memorized his instructions from EliteXC before the fight and made the call that EliteXC wanted him to make. Nice job ref. “Good Boy, Goooooooood Boy” You took the fight away from Thompson because he sprung a leak from a wayward Kimbo punch. Thompson is probably the worst jiu jitsu artist on earth and he looked like a Gracie Black Belt against Kimblow.
What a pack of retards they are over at EliteXC. They hype this chump up and put him against “neverwas” fighters and ‘has beens’ Sad thing is, Ken will probably give this goon a real fight OR at least go down swinging.
Next up for Kimbo: Stone Cold Steve Austin, six packs hangin from each corner and Vince McMahon as the ref! NIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!
You pple make me laugh.. Yall dont understand that all this hating on Kimbo is makin him even more popular.. I bet If he reads this stuff he just sits back and laughs at u dumb F!#@$.. The guy had no MMA experience what so ever and yall expect him to come in and fight the best of the best.. If this was just a hands fight he prolly could but its not.. Keep takin it a step at a time Kimbo and show these dumbasses somethin!
If you’ll go back through the stuff I’ve written in particular both here and at my old site, Prophet Fighting, and read the article on the main page that Grady Roy just wrote you’ll see that we’re hardly Kimbo “haters”. If anything, my stuff in particular would brand me something of a Kimbo honk.
Having said that, his level of competition is becoming comical. Were this boxing I might buy the “bringing him along slowly” argument. And you can’t blame EliteXC for wanting to milk the Kimbo phenomenon as long as possible. At some point, however, he’s got to start making a move up in class if he wants to be taken seriously as a fighter. This isn’t my opinion or the opinion of The Savage Science–its just the reality of the situation.
Brock Lesnar is a marked contrast to Kimbo in how he’s managed his career–he’s never had an easy fight. His debut fight against Min Soo Kim was likely the easiest due to his size and strength advantage, but he was still dealing with a well trained judo specialist. Frank Mir had his liabilities, but he was a BJJ black belt and the disparity in technical skill cost Lesnar the match. Third fight, he’s in against a experienced and tough as nails vet in Herring and he pounds him. Now he’s in line for a fight against Randy Couture….
Kimbo is a very intriguing fighter and has excellent training with Bas Rutten. Assuming he wants to be taken seriously as a fighter at some point he’s either got to sink or swim–there’s nothing wrong with him being a “special attraction” type of fighter but if he wants to be seen as legitimate he’s got to raise the level of opposition he fights.
At this point in his career, the top strikers in MMA would eat Kimbo alive–Arlovski, Ben Rothwell, Josh Barnett, Fedor, Overeem come immediately to mind. Kimbo could probably hold his own against one dimensional, second and third tier guys like Gan McGee and Ricco Rodriguez. Other than that, anyone with a competent ground game would destroy Kimbo–and we’re not even talking “the best of the best”.
And our other example–Brock Lesnar–would brutalize Kimbo and he technically has less MMA experience.
No one is denying that Kimbo is popular, and we’re the last ones in the world who’d dis him for taking advantage of the opportunity he’s been given. He can hang around the sport forever, beat up overmatched opponents and get paid. We’re assuming he wants to be taken seriously as a fighter and to do so he’s got to continue to challenge himself in his training and with the opposition he faces.
