ShoXC: Alexander Shlemenko vs. Robert “Bubba” McDaniel

By Jim Murphy October 10th, 2008

Shlemenko’s home town of Olmsted, Russia sounds like a real nice place–over 50% of the youth are in prison, addicted to drugs or dead by the age of 21. Olmsted is also the team that Jaromir Jagr signed to play with, btw, as Canadian Ranallo reminds us.

ROUND ONE:

McDaniel gets the takedown almost immediately and starts the ground and pound–Shlemenko starts to work a kimura from the bottom but nothing doing. NICE Gordon Solie reference by Mauro Ranallo–saying that McDaniel is trying to set Shlemenko up for a “soo-play”. Fight should be stopped now and awarded to Ranallo for that reference. McDaniel getting the best of a grappling game–he’s now throwing a lot of knees on the ground and mauling the Russian. McDaniel is a real smooth BJJ fighter–he takes full mount and gives up his back. He’s eating a lot of shots to the back of the head a la Royce Gracie vs. Matt Hughes. McDaniel now gets the full mount, throws a few punches and then takes Shlemenko’s back again and is trying to work a rear naked choke with less than a minute left. He escapes for now but he’s back to eating a lot of punches to the back of the head. Fighters get stood up by the ref–Shlemenko ducks it. As the round end McDaniel eats a HARD knee shot and Bubba is in serious pain. Ref hasn’t stopped the fight, but McDaniel is in Cro Cop style pain. Ref is stopping the fight as McDaniel is seriously hurt. Actually, the knee was to the ribs and Bubba’s may be broken. NASTY shot out of nowhere gives Shlemenko the TKO victory and McDaniel is still doubled over in pain.

ALEXANDER SHLEMENKO WINS BY TKO

McDaniel still doubled over but he’s on his feet–his ribs are probably cracked and he no doubt hurts like hell but doesn’t appear to be any critical damage.
