UFC threatening Affliction?

By Jim Murphy October 25th, 2008

Todd Beard from Affliction was a guest on Scott Ferrall’s radio show–he has some pretty wild allegations about the UFC hierarchy including Dana White. Of course this wouldn’t be the first time something like this has gone on in the fight game and/or the casino industry. At the very least it’ll give Dana an opportunity to “cut a promo” on Beard–his recent rants on his video blog have been the best pro wrestling promos done in America since the WWE watered down CM Punk….with Gary and Jared Shaw of EliteXC out of the game for now Dana needs someone else to feud with…

MMA promotion Affliction’s co-founder Todd Beard has claimed, “[The UFC is] not just threatening [Affliction's business model], they threaten us personally, which is hysterical. Dana White, Lorenzo Fertita, they are tough guys, old school mafia guys, or wanna-be old school mafia guys.”

Beard made the comment on The Scott Ferrall Show aired on Sirius Satellite Radio.

UFC President Dana White has frequently referred to Beard and Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio as “the T-shirt guys”, goofing on Affliction’s primary business enterprise designing and marketing apparel.

Beard threatened, “Dana White, by the way, the T-shirt guy is gonna f*ck your ass up.”

The UFC has not commented publicly on Beard’s claim or threat.

What Dana and his online nuthuggers always fail to miss about “the t-shirt guys” is that every t shirt they sell likely nets them more money than every PPV the UFC sells….

BTW, they spelled ‘Fertitta’ incorrectly in the quote, we didn’t…

After Dana’s tongue-wagging steaming-pile-dropping video the other night, why would Affliction NOT think that he would try to take them on conceptually, logistically, verbally and literally?

As much as I like the “fight game” all of this posturing is just a rung above WWE for me.

Heh…as someone who considers himself a bit of an expert on boxing history it sounds like “business as usual” in the fight game to me :-)

this is ridiculous…. ufc earned their money as a fight company
affliction sold t-shirts the got EXTRA F*CKING FUNDING from donald trump
if affliction’s t-shirt sales were making more tahn ufc ppv sales then why did they need funding
