Chris Leben tests positive for steroids
By Jim Murphy November 3rd, 2008Via the hardest working man in fight sport…er…sports…journalism, Michael David Smith @ AOL Fanhouse:
Chris Leben failed a UFC administered drug test following his loss to Michael Bisping at UFC 89. He’ll be suspended for 9 months and fined 1/3 of his purse. Leben fought gamely but was no match for Bisping’s superior technical striking skills in the loss.
Perhaps the biggest story here is that the UFC’s drug test nailed him. There’s always been a lot of speculation that certain fighters were booked on European events due to the risk that they’d fail a drug test administered by a state athletic commission.
Leben is a tough, charismatic fighter but has a history of making bad decisions from his hair color to an outstanding drunk driving rap that landed him in a jail here in the Rose City (well, in nearby Clackamas-tucky County) instead of in a fight with Bisping. He moved to Hawaii to clean up his act and certainly looked to be in better physical shape at UFC 89.

The only comment I can muster is the same thing that Bas Rutten says when he learns of yet another fighter that has taken the pointy direction of a needle: “If you lack already, taking da’ steroids isn’t going to help you. It doesn’t make you Superman and you have to live with the repercussions of making a truly bad decision.”
Sad.
