Sokoudjou, Gurgel cut by UFC
By Jim Murphy November 27th, 2008The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the UFC has cut Jorge Gurgel and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. Sokoudjou became something of a MMA phenom after back-to-back highlight reel knockouts of Antonio Rogerio Nogueria and Ricardo Arona while in PRIDE but has struggled since joining the UFC. Based on his success there, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him fighting in one of the Japanese promotions before too long.
Jorge Gurgel was also cut–despite winning “Fight of the Night” honors twice during his UFC tenure (most recently at UFC 91) his W/L record was less than impressive. He’s landed on his feet, however, as he’s already reportedly signed with STRIKEFORCE.
