Reserve fights added to K-1 World GP Final

By Hoyt November 28th, 2008

Two reserve matches added to K-1 World GP Final, to take place after the four quarterfinal matches:

–Hong-Man Choi vs. Ray Sefo
–Melvin Manhoef vs. Paul Slowinski

Glad to see Choi back in action. Last we heard from him he was being excused from his Korean military service due to a brain tumor. The tumor was removed in June, and he had a comeback fight on a K-1 card in September. Not sure if taking a fight three months after brain surgery is the best idea, but Choi fought well against current K-1 heavyweight champ Badr Hadi. Choi’s corner threw in the towel due to a rib injury suffered by their fighter, but at the time of the stoppage two judges had the fight a draw, with the third showing Choi the winner. He appears to have lost considerable weight since his surgery and looks to be in the best shape of his career. MMA fans will recall his fight at last year’s Yarrenoka card against Fedor Emelianenko.

Melvin Manhoef was most recently seen in the DREAM middleweight GP tournament where he demolished Japanese fighting legend Kazushi Sakuraba before losing to eventual champion Gegard Mousasi.
