XCF to offer streaming PPV as benefit for Corey Hill
By Jim Murphy February 10th, 2009This is pretty cool…Florida based Xtreme Cage Fighting will offer a live PPV stream of their “Rumble in Racetown” event on Saturday night with proceeds to benefit injured UFC fighter Corey Hill. Hill grew up in Florida, was a multiple time state wrestling champion there and is best known to MMA fans as they guy who suffered one of the most ghastly injuries this side of Sid Vicious ‘putting his leg on backwards’ (or for old school NFL fans, Joe Theisman’s infamous Monday Night Football leg break) against Dale Hartt. Hill threw a low kick that was checked by Hartt, and due to a freak combination of the force, angle, speed, etc, basically split his shinbone in half.
While the UFC is reportedly picking up the tab for Hill’s medical bills, he’s going to be rehabbing this injury for up to 18 months. Even for a lifetime athlete in great shape, this is a nasty thing to come back from. Hopefully he can resume his fighting career but at age 30 facing that kind of an injury its not a slam dunk. In the meantime, he’s got a family(a wife and 3 kids) to support and bills to pay like everyone else. Hill is one of those guys that you really root for and someone who worked his ass off just to pursue his dream of being a professional fighter–at one point he worked at Wal Mart part time while training to fight and if that ain’t dedication I don’t know what is.
We’re going to get the PPV and do the round by round on it, but since this PPV is going to a worthy cause we don’t want to take any money out of Hill’s pocket. For every viewer that shows up and makes at least one coherent comment THE SAVAGE SCIENCE will donate $10 to Hill’s medical/rehab fund which is being administered by his gym (Gracie Tampa). We’ll also have it on Saturday night if you want to send him a little something extra. Since XFC has the streaming costs of their production to cover, Hill will actually benefit from you following the action here at SAVSCI. Here’s the blurb from the XCF website:
Corey Hill, who fights out of Rob Kahn’s Gracie Tampa stable, was a junior college national wrestling champion and is considered by many to be one of the top up-and-coming MMA fighters in his division. While fighting in an UFC® event this past December, Hill broke his leg in what many are calling one of the most gruesome injuries in MMA history.
“This is awesome; I can’t believe the folks at XCF are putting something like this together for me. The doctors say I could be out for 12-18 months so any kind of money coming in is going to be a huge help for me and my family.” says Corey. Rob Kahn, Hill’s trainer / manager also commented, “It has been an incredible experience dealing with XCF on the Daytona event, I can’t get over the generosity and professionalism the Bland brothers have shown in the promotion of this event.”
Great comment from XCF founder Doug Bland, who basically echoes our attitude here at SAVSCI about fighting and fighters:
“Xtreme Cagefighting Federation has the deepest appreciation for all MMA fighters. It doesn’t matter what organization you are part of or what school you train with, at the end of the day, we all need to better this sport by helping to support each other.” said Bland.

We’re not going to replay the video of Corey Hill’s nasty leg break because, frankly, it hurts us to watch it. If you want to see what we’re talking about and what hill is facing, however, here’s a link below. We warn you that its not for the faint of heart–we’re talking something that makes experience fight aficionados cringe. The link below is at gossip site TMZ which should give you some idea of how nasty it is: a celebrity gossip site reported on it just because it was so gruesome:
