‘Deadliest Warrior’ coming to Spike TV
By Jim Murphy March 27th, 2009It’s not MMA, but the description makes it pretty self explanatory that this will rule:
Each week on Deadliest Warrior, a new episode will pit two of the most feared warriors civilization has ever known against each other. Along with the use of 21st century science and the latest in CGI technology, each episode enlists warrior-specific world-class fighters and experts to provide insight into what makes these combatants tick, analyzing every facet of their unique skills of destruction, culminating in a head-to-head final fight between two legends of the battlefield that will produce the deadliest warrior. Other highly-anticipated showdowns this season include: Pirate vs. Knight, Taliban vs. IRA, Yakuza vs. Mafia, Viking vs. Samurai, Green Beret vs. Spetznaz, Maori vs. Shaolin Monks, William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu and Ninja vs. Spartan.
You can enjoy a video of Chuck Liddell helping to test some Ancient Roman weapons at the link below. Since other videos featured the special effects team creating entrails, brain matter and gut spillage this promises to be a rock em’ sock em’ gore fest the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the demise of the Japanese FMW wrestling promotion. ‘Deadliest Warrior’ premiers April 7th at 10 PM. Our money is on the Yakuza…

YOUR FULL OF SH*T WITH THE SAMURAI BEATING THE VIKING. YOUR TESTS ARE FLAWED. DID THE SAMURAI RUN AROUND THE WORLD CRUSHING PEOPLE. NO. I RESPECT THE SAMURAI TOTALLY. BUT A VIKING BERSERKER WAS AS GOOD AS THE 300 SPARTANS. THE SAMURAI COULD NOT HAVE TRULY MANHANDLED A VIKING THE WAY YOU DEPICTED IT. I AM VIKING AND BY ODIN, THOR’S HEART WOULD COME OUT IN A VIKING AND CRUSH THEIR SAMURAI ASS. A VIKING WOULD NOT HAVE SAT THERE AND TAKEN THOSE BLOWS. GET REALISTIC GUYS, OR CANCEL YOUR SHOW. THE BRAWN WOULDA WON. DONT KISS UP TO THE VIEWERS. IF THE SAMURAI HAD A BOW, THE VIKING WOULDA PULLED HIS SHIELD FIRST TO BLOCK. YOUR CALLING VIKINGS STUPID THAT WAY. YOU ARE WRONGGG.

In a head to head pitting the vikings v. the samurai you are absolutely correct–the vikings would have dominated. There’s not a genre of metal known as ’samurai metal’ now is there? We rest our case…

A valid point that based on brawn-to-brawn a Viking would win against a Samurai. I would say that Vikings were a hardier bunch in general and were also not bound by the more restrictive rules of engagement that many Samurai were. That being said however, it has been my experience in my years of kumite against a wide-range of fighting styles (not just “typical martial arts”) that it is speed, flexibility and accuracy that play a more important role that brawn alone. I have come against my fair share of big (and skilled) combatants who have tended to rely on their overwhelming brawn and have, more often than not, triumphed over them even though I am physically much less than them…. after all, if you can’t hit me, what good is your brawn? My bet would be on the Samurail - they excel at speed, accuracy, economy of motion (leading to a greater stamina) as well as incredible cutting techniques (just look up Tameshi-giri and you can see some pretty spectacular things). Either way, I greatly respect both the Samurai and Viking and truth be told, I’ve always had a fascination with the Vikings, both in terms of their fighting prowess as well as their unmatched adventurous spirit!!

In the show they’re loaded with tests and numbers, the demonstration was just a demonstration it wasn’t how the actual fight would go, so don’t assume that a viking would’ve just stood there and let the samurai kill him. Based on the numbers, it’s fact that the samurai be more likely to kill a viking. Your criticizing a show and you don’t know what your talking about

the interesting bout will be maori warrior versus shaolin monk. Now i know that most people have seen or heard of the shaolin but what of the maori warrior? A culture more devoted to warfare than the spartan more skilled in their weaponry than the samurai( historical note- maori warrior and a samurai have fought, maori won in less than 10 seconds.) and more ferocious in battle than the viking. They fought the british empire and were outnumbered and outgunned but still are the only native people to have the British call for peace and sign a treaty with.
It willbe interesting alright…………….the more well known shaolin with their “martial arts” or a people from the bottom of the earth that really not many people know about.

kia ora, i am a maori male living in nz. Ive been watching this show quite interesting. I can’t wait to see the fight between the maori and the shaolin monk. complete opposites i think we should have been paired with the Apache but anyway. i must say i respect the shaolin monks the ultimate pacifist killing machine. But even though we had stone age technology we were one of the most fierce warriors of all time. we trained in mau rakau ( basically maori martial arts) from early child hood. you became a man when you killed your first man in combat , sometimes that could have been as early as 11 or 12. From there went the painful process of moko or tamoko (tattooing of the face body and buttocks. us maori never wore Armour the only armor we wore was our moko.our main weapons were the taiha (6ft club used for stinking thrusting) the mere or patu (small flat club used for quick thrust basically used to expose the brain) the Wahaika: (used for quick jabs and thrusts has a small indentation to catch opponents weapons. even though they were made from stone they were highly effective ,all weans were cared with great detail . When the english arrived on my shores so many years ago they thought that the bayonet was the fiercest of all hand to hand weapons. But that was until they met our warriors with the tiaha. Back in those days they didnt muck around they went in killed everyone those they didn’t kill were taken back to the enemy pa (fortified strong hold) slaves had the faces tattooed ,they then cut the heads off and shrunk them great warriors were eaten and the women taken as wives. We also had a delacisie back in those which we called long pork (basically European meat). but as jim said before we were the only native people to beat the english, the suckered us in with the bull shit treaty. But i think i will be a interesting fight, but most of all for everyone out there to learn more about my warrior culture that is still running strong today as it was so many hundred of years ago

the shaolin monks would kick the hell out of the maori warriors in the computer and in real life even if the maori warriors had a 12-guage shotgun .The monks could even beat the mafia, samurai, and everybody else who have won on that show in the past by a long shot.

@crex: The Samurai (Japanese army) destroyed the Shaolin monks the last time they met (circa 1930s-1940s) and made “comfort women” of their wives/sisters/daughters etc. Wasn’t even a contest. Who of the Shaolin monks’ foes have attested to their courage in battle? None. Certainly not Ghengis Khan and the Samurais who invaded their with country with impunity and at will. On the other hand, the Maori warriors (like the Ghurkas) were feared as formidable foes by their enemies which include the British (circa 1900) and Germans (WW2).
