TapouT crew talk about ‘Mask’s’ death

By Jim Murphy March 27th, 2009

Here’s a video of the remaining members of the ‘TapouT’ crew talking about the MMA clothing company and the death of co-founder Charles ‘Mask’ Lewis. One of the comments on the YouTube page suggests that “they pretty much dont give a f*ck bout Mask’s death.” I’ll let you draw your own opinion–on one hand they do give the impression that its ‘business as usual’ minus one member but on the other hand that’s pretty much what you’ve *got* to do when you’re running a big company.

I agree, it does seem like it really does not phase them too much. Their friend died !! They are talking about things that really should not matter right now. WOW

I don’t get what the big deal is. I must have missed the part where they said they don’t care? Everyone mourns a loss in their own way/time. The interview took place on the 24th, 13 days after the accident. They have had some time to mourn and deal with their feelings. Cut them some slack!

I have to come down with Carol on this one. How people deal with loss and mourning is a very individual thing. Its not uncommon for people to focus on their professional endeavors as a means of stability during difficult times, and for the surviving TapouT guys that means continuing with their ‘gig’ as PunkAss and Skrape. Going about their usual day to day business can help people who have suffered a loss find structure in an otherwise chaotic time. For these guys, their ‘every day business’ is throwing on makeup and promoting their company. And really ‘keeping on keeping on’ is ultimately one of the best ways they can honor their late friend. The last thing that ‘Mask’ would have wanted is for his cohorts to shut it down and even temporarily slow the progress of the company they built.

Of course when it all comes down to it no one really knows what their personal deal is and how they’re dealing with the situation. Certainly they deserve more benefit of the doubt than drawing the conclusion that they’re not overly fazed by ‘Mask’s’ death from a YouTube snippet. I just thought it was interesting that a number of YouTube commenters were drawing this inference and felt it worthy of discussion.

You should have seen them last night at the fight, they were extremely broken up, nobody should try and guess what they are feeling via a 3minute spot they see… I mean come on

  5. Wayne Says:

Unless you know Mask or the Tapout crew i dont think you should critisize how someone mourns the death of thier friend……
