‘Si, senor but the bull he does not always lose’

By Jim Murphy June 2nd, 2009

Via the indispensable Michael David Smith, and more specifically MDS’ Twitter stream:

The hardest working man in sports journalism, Michael David Smith not only covers MMA, boxing and the NFL among other sports better than anyone in the business but is apparently not missing anything on the bullfight beat either. As we’ve noted before, if we were in charge of things MDS would be front and center on ESPN and the unctuous Bill Simmons would be covering duckpin bowling for a suburban Boston weekly. But we digress…

Those of you who’ve ever caught any bullriding on Versus TV know that bulls ain’t no joke and can lay a lot of hurt on anyone who tangles with them. They especially dislike guys in fancy costumes who try to provoke them prior to killing them, as Spanish Matador Israel Lancho recently found out:

….the 30-year-old Lancho is likely to be in the intensive care unit of a Madrid hospital for several days but is expected to survive. Lancho reportedly has an eight-inch wound in his abdominal area, but the bull’s horn missed his heart. The incident took place at the San Isidro’s fair in Las Ventas bullring.

Seriously harsh video of the incident. You have been warned…
