Brock Lesnar pulls out of UFC 106 fight due to illness
By Jim Murphy October 26th, 2009The UFC has confirmed that the UFC 106 main event between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin has been postponed. Lesnar has been suffering from the flu which has obviously hurt his training as well as his stamina.
UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has withdrawn from his UFC 106 main event title defense against unbeaten Shane Carwin due to an illness that has forced him out of training camp for nearly a month. The UFC hopes to re-schedule the bout for early 2010. Stepping up into the main event slot will be the highly-anticipated rematch between former light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin.
The tentative plan is to reschedule the fight for 1/2/10 in Las Vegas. Credit to the UFC for getting in front of this and quickly confirming the Lesnar withdrawal. They’ve already changed the fight lineup for 106 on the website and everything so its now UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2. Still, they better get a new co-main event or this is going to be the weakest lineup for a PPV ever and I’m not sure that Tito’s ability to sell PPV buys is what it once was. With all due respect to Karo Parysian and Dustin Hazelett, that’s not a PPV worthy semi-final fight.
