Lesnar vs. Carwin looking less likely; Rashad vs. Thiago Silva more likely for UFC 108 main event
By Jim Murphy November 4th, 2009Brock Lesnar still isn’t healthy enough to resume training, and that’s making a potential fight against Shane Carwin on January 2nd look less and less likely. To get in a six week training camp before UFC 108 Lesnar would have to get back to work within the next 10 days (November 14th would be six weeks exactly). Since he’ll likely need some time to regain his strength and endurance on top of that its becoming difficult to envision a scenario that would allow him to make the January 2nd fight date. With the Machida/Shogun rematch no longer a possibility as is the Silva/Belfort match the most compelling matchup available at the moment is a Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Sliva fight. That would be a very good fight, to be sure, but doesn’t really give the UFC the necessary marquee matchup for what they were hoping would be one of the biggest events of the year. It’s a good choice for MMA hardcores, but doesn’t have the appeal among casual fans that Lesnar would have on the card.
