The worst wrestling match of all time?

By Jim Murphy December 6th, 2009

It’s definitely up there–its one of four matches that Dave Meltzer at The Wrestling Observer has ever given a *negative* five star rating. We’ll track down the others in the next couple of weeks but this is a classic between Moondog Spot and The Junkyard Dog at ‘The Wrestling Classic’ in November 1985:

Gorilla Monsoon is the best name ever.

He kind of came off as a moron in his announcing but was always held in *very* high respect by Vince McMahon. After he retired from the ring, he was in charge of standing by the dressing room door to give the wrestlers their final instructions before they went ‘on’ either for a match or promo. Even before his death, it started to be referred to as ‘the gorilla position’ and the name has stuck as something of a tribute.

But you’re right it is a great name ;-)

That’s where that comes from? Good piece of trivia right there.
